In Grape Juice City, we want players to play a fast-paced game without having to try too hard to understand what they must do to win and have fun. We wanted the players to know that their focus of the game was to make juice and deliver them to the pedestrian to win.
Players can collect items and craft juice without having to prioritize their thoughts too much on crafting through a more simplistic approach. The juice can then be delivered to pedestrians to fill up the juice bar with their team’s color. Collectable power ups are also added throughout the map to give players advantages if they are lucky enough to find get them. After playing the game for a certain amount of time, the game will conclude with the winner displayed at the end.
Players
Every playable character has the same basic technical mechanics within the game. The only difference with each character is a unique ability mechanic that is specific to them:
· Direction Movement:
The players have directional movement allowing them to strafe in any direction while facing the direction that their camera is facing.
We wanted to have all movement feel fast but not too fast as the player navigates the map.
· Direction Aiming:
The characters camera moves around the character in a third person point-of-view. The player will always face in the direction that the camera is facing, slightly above the player.
This will give the player more view of the map on their screen.
· Jumping:
The players can once jump once on the ground and a second time in the air if they are on a surface.
· Kick/Interacting:
The characters can interact with different object throughout the map.
· Throw:
After crafting juice, the player can throw it onto the map for different effects on the player, pedestrian, or map.
There are mechanics that also correlates to different characters. Each of these mechanics are based on a cooldown mechanic like kick:
· Dash:
The Kiwi character can dash in any direction the player is moving, or forward if stationary.
· Flap:
The Albatross character can triple jump. It uses the jump button rather than the action button. If the player is airborne and they used their second jump, they can flap as a third jump and then the ability goes on cooldown.
· Punt:
This is the Toucan character second kick ability. A punt has all the same characteristics as a kick but can stun other players and pedestrians. Players coming out a stun cannot be stunned again for a bit and pedestrians lose their current color if they have one.
· Attract:
The Cockatoo has an ability to crowd control groups of pedestrians. The cockatoo will drop a stereo onto a location and draw surrounding pedestrian towards that stereo.
Items
There are many items throughout that map to collect. You can collect fruits and recyclables to craft the juices that will be delivered the pedestrians. You can also collect power-up to use to enhance your gameplay:
· Recyclables:
Reusable bottles, cans, and juice boxes to make juice that all players can collect.
· Fruits:
Fruits that correlate to each team are collectable for that team to use to craft juice.
· Power-ups:
There are collectible items throughout the map that can give players a buff to their characters. These are single use items that are consumed once used.
· Juice:
Juices are items crafted by the players to deliver to pedestrians which will raise their world score.
